How to crack an audition and its basics

Hi folks, in the last post i gave brief of how to make an acting career in India which summarizes as coming to Mumbai, get a good portfolio done, giving auditions and working. In this post we will talk about the auditioning aspect which is very much important as it test your acting skills.First and the foremost point here is that you are here to become an actor, your pics can get you shortlisted for a role but only your audition can get you selected.Audition is taken to judge the acting abilities of a person which includes expressions, way of speaking, body language , character understanding etc.

There are mainly two types of auditions which are general auditions and shortlisted auditions.In general audition anyone can go and give a audition for a particular character which suits according to their looks while in a shortlisted auditions you are suppose to mail your pictures and if you are shortlisted then only you will be called for an audition.Obviously shortlisted auditions are more important as chance of selection is way more then general auditions.In general audition only 5% of persons get selected and its a waste of time, money and energy.

Audition is a sample of acting. If you are good at auditions then 95% of the times you are good at acting. Many people crack mostly all the auditions while others keep on giving auditions without any success.Why there is this difference, why some people get consistently selected while others get rejected.The answer is not that they don't have the acting skill or ability to do it but their approach towards it.

Most of the struggling actors go with a negative approach towards these auditions as getting constantly rejected has made them pessimistic about auditions but the approach is the most important thing as it reflects in the audition you give and also gives the vibes according to the approach. So having a positive approach will win half the battle for you.

Punctuality is must in acting field, if you really want to be a successful actor and take it as your profession, you need to be very punctual. Time is money, if you don't respect time, time will never respect you.If you are called for a audition or if the audition timings are 12 to 6, you should be the first one to give the audition.See if you are late to an audition, there would be someone already selected for a part before you even give the audition, which you might have landed up if you were early.

Now coming to main aspect of auditioning, in an audition you are given a script and brief character description. First of all don't try to mug up the script as what the other person is looking is not you memorizing skills , he is looking for your acting skill. So first of all understand the character you are playing, then how he speaks, delivers his dialogues, what body language he has.Now when you have figured out these things go towards the lines and try to remember them as naturally as you are talking to somebody. Be very natural while giving an audition.

A very important aspect of overall audition process is at a audition be very polite to people, respect what the other person is looking for, if he rejects , he is not rejecting you, he is rejecting your request.Most important of all is be confident from the start till the end, don't fumble while giving introduction or talking to concerned person conducting the audition.

How to start an acting career

You are a model, a good looking person, an acting passionate person and you have that urge to become an actor then this is the perfect post for you to read. This post as i believe will give you a way to start an acting career and will help you make your dream come true.

First thing first, come to Mumbai. Mumbai is the only place where your acting career can be launched. Most of the production houses are in Mumbai. Mainly auditions are held in Mumbai, most of them in Andheri west area of Mumbai.Get a place at Andheri west, there are many paying guest available.These paying guest are available in twin or triple sharing basis which costs around 5k to 10k per month.

Secondly, you need a to get a portfolio done.Portfolio is the most important as through your photos only you will get shortlisted for any characters. Now you will send this portfolio to various email ids of casting directors, producers, directors, production houses etc. If they have a character with which your look suits they will call you for an audition. These photos are extremely important and thus you need to get a portfolio done from a good photographer. Good portfolio doesn't mean a costly portfolio, a good decent portfolio which you need will cost around 15k to 25k depending upon the photographer.

Third is giving Auditions. Now they are two types of auditions, first are open auditions where they will give the age group and if you fit in that age group you are allowed to give audition. second are shortlisted auditions where you will be called after they have seen your photos which you would have mailed them. In open auditions there are less chances of selection than in shortlisted ones. But you shouldn't skip any audition as audition not only gives you chance to act in serials,advertisements or movies but also teaches you acting. You don't need to join any acting course, give auditions seriously you will know what acting is and what is required to get selected. Audition information can be available online, whatsapp groups and production houses.

Fourth is working on your physique. A good physique is not required but gives you an additional chance of getting selected also nowadays its a trend in the industry so you will have to go according to industry standards.Join a good gym, have a proper diet, by the time you will start working in the industry, you will have a perfect physique which will help you to build your career.

Give a few auditions, get selected and start working accordingly. No need of any acting course, no need of theatre, just practical approach towards your goal and you will start working in less then 3 months.In the next post i will talk about basics of acting and how to crack an audition.

GUIDE FOR NEW ASPIRING ACTORS

Its all starts from, you know you want to become an actor but don't know how to do it. You try to follow the steps of actors who are already there in the industry. You see that they have done acting schools and you also run behind that. They become assistant directors in movies, you also try to do that. 

The major thing you don't see or notice is they are sons of big movie actors, or people already there in the industry or some big shot who is going to invest in his son's movie.For them any way they take to learn acting they are going to land up as a lead actor in a movie. 

But for the people who don't have the background, this path will just waste your time and money, chances are there you will get lost in Mumbai partying and stuff. You will realize one day that you are not being able to achieve what you are there for and ultimately will lead to frustration and till then many years will be gone.

I will tell you i have learn from my own experience and with that experience i want other people to take benefit of my experience.Many new aspiring actors i have helped and they only came up with an idea that i should share my knowledge and experience to many new aspiring actors who dream to do big in the industry but get lost in their way.

In my personal opinion, following my guidance you can start a career as an actor within 3 months as there is lot of work in the industry and the people who deserve don't know the right way to get work and non deserving people being intelligent get work even when they don't know how to act.
